UTHSC Physician Assistant Program
Meet, Devin Rohde, MSU alumna and current student in The University of Tennessee College of Medicine's Physician Assistant Studies Program. Devin is serving as the Vice President for the class of 2019.
What did you do prior to getting into PA School? “I worked at Church Health, a local Memphis non profit, for 5 years. As a clinic assistant, I managed 7 volunteer specialty clinics for a year and a half. This included scheduling, intake, assisting with procedures, and patient education. I moved into an Information Systems position where I where I taught, tested, managed, and supported a staff of 200 in using the EMR system, NextGen, for 4 years. During that 4 years, I also taught new clinic assistants how to run clinics, work with new providers, and be supportive of patients and staff.”
What has been the most memorable experience you have had during PA school? “I'd say I have a few. I've enjoyed all the experiences getting to hangout as a class outside of the classroom. We had a "No More Anatomy" pool party was really fun and a great way to de-stress! We held a class crawfish boil that was a great time, not to mention delicious! I also headed up planning our inaugural Stead Gala last December. It was amazing to have the opportunity to see both the classes of 2018 and 2019 unite with the faculty, with everyone dressed up and dancing the night away in honor of celebrating our milestones as students and as a program.”
Best advice from a clinical preceptor? "Do things fast and furious while you're learning, be true to who you are, be genuine in your encounters with people, and everything will work itself out. You'll graduate, you'll get the dream job, just put in the work and don't lose yourself in the process." Dr. Sultan-Ali, UTHSC, Pulmonology Critical Care
